Meet Natsumi Ito
Clean Tech Entrepreneur & Nanobubble Innovator 🫧
Crafting and making things by hand has always been a creative outlet for Natsumi Ito. As a startup founder, she often draws on that same resourcefulness, especially when finding creative ways to showcase complex technology and capture people's attention at events. The DIY mindset of experimenting, working with what's available, and turning ideas into something tangible has naturally carried into the way she approaches entrepreneurship.
As Co-Founder of Water Design Japan and NanoWasala, Natsumi is working to make Ultra Fine Bubble (UFB) technology more practical and accessible. Originally developed for industrial applications to reduce cleaning chemicals and improve water efficiency, the technology is now being adapted into consumer products that bring the benefits of nanobubbles into everyday life.
What are you currently building?
A new consumer brand built around Ultra Fine Bubble technology. While the technology was initially developed for industrial and commercial applications, Natsumi is now focused on making it more accessible for homes through products like shower attachments. Inspired by the idea that water itself can become a more effective cleaning tool, her team is creating products that help cleanse skin and hair while reducing the need for unnecessary chemicals.
What excites you about Japan?
Japan's unique combination of craftsmanship, technology, and changing consumer behavior. She enjoys exploring how traditional marketing channels continue to coexist with digital strategies, while also seeing opportunities for AI to help businesses adapt to Japan's evolving demographic landscape. She also believes Japan's reputation for exceptional water quality makes it the perfect place to showcase water innovation.
A risk that changed your trajectory?
Becoming a mother while building a startup. Motherhood has been an incredible blessing that she deeply loves, while also teaching her new ways to balance her time and responsibilities. Learning to trust her team, embrace tools like AI, and lean on the people around her has helped her grow both as a founder and as a parent.
A habit that has had the biggest impact?
Making time for creativity and exploration. Whether it's crafting, DIY projects, scuba diving, or spending time outdoors, Natsumi enjoys activities that let her create, explore, and recharge. She finds that stepping into different environments often gives her fresh perspectives that carry back into her work.
Advice for your 20s?
Don't underestimate the advantage of being young. Be willing to take on challenges, keep expanding your network, and make the most of the opportunities and resources around you. The relationships and experiences you build early often become the foundation for everything that comes next.
